This is quite an impressive and thought-provoking opus! Librarian (a good one!) is a hugely important calling. Still, if you are looking for an institution to save, certainly the church is in desperate need! You would only need to crawl in the door to be a far-above-average minister!

Thank you, Rick, but I beg to differ on ministers. I have high regard for most of the ones I’ve met.

I apologize for being so harsh on ministers. And as you remind me, there are a great many who are absolutely wonderful. I confess to over-generalzing and being unduly influenced by the bad examples (e.g., the egregious treatment of Occupy Wall Street demonstators) and the "greed is good" mentality associated with Trinity Wall Street in particular.

So glad to know about your new calling. Not only does it run in your family, it is clear to me that

you are a very thoughtful reader, and .good at passing along your thoughts. Thanks for

the list of blogs and books.you read. I also read Heather and love The Marginalian! We are reading another of Richard Rohr's books called "The Divine Dance", about the Trinity. So far, his ideas

seem at least worth considering. I ordered "Christianity and the Rest of Us" to share with Margie

who is an interim at a church whose Vestry acts as though the buildings are more important

than attracting new members. She finds it very frustrating.

Thank you, Patsy. The faith that you and Margie show to the world is a wonderful example for me. I appreciate your reading this rather too introspective piece!

I for one am very happy to see you walking multiple paths along that swamp, J. When we look back 500 years, do we regret that Leonardo was not a specialist? Please do not specialize unless you feel one path that much more attractive than the others. I enjoy reading your blogs, seeing your artwork and hearing your music.. and I think all three of these outlets allow your spiritual, if that's the right word, insights to come shining out from under the bushel.

Pardon my reference to one of your earlier posts.

What a thoughtful and thought-provoking piece. You'd be a wonderful minister! This piece alone would make an excellent sermon. Thanks for including the great reading list. I also enjoy Heather Cox Richardson's work, and react similarly. I hope you will continue to express yourself in your writings, music, and visual art pieces however you feel inspired. No need to narrow down unless you want to - and please keep on sharing here :-)

Thank you John! I’d love that! I also think you’d be a great pastoral counselor.

Well they did name you John Edwards.

I think that means your vocation is clearly written on your birth certificate.
